Manjū

Round off your Asian theme with these Japanese steamed delicacies

Step 1
Cut 8 (about 10 x 10 cm) squares of SAGA Cooking Paper.

Step 2
Mix the flour, sugar and baking powder. Add the warm water gradually and knead to make a smooth dough.

Step 3
Divide the dough into 8 portions. Roll each portion in the palms of your hands to make a ball and flatten slightly. Add a small knob of bean paste in the center of the dough and close to complete the ball again.

Step 4
Place the balls onto the sheets of paper, lift the corners of the paper up to make a ‘basket’ and place into a bamboo or other steamer for about 15 minutes. Serve the manjūs with green tea.

TOP TIP: By placing dough-like food in cooking paper ‘baskets’ it won’t stick to other portions or the steamer.
